The client is one of Europe’s leading sportswear distributors, servicing both the B2B and B2C markets. It acquires apparel in large quantities then distributes these goods to small-scale resellers.

Problemstellung

The client wants to improve the agility and scalability of its data provision and analysis to ensure efficient insights into business processes amid the challenges of big data. During the initial implementation of its new data warehouse, the client was confronted with several issues:

  • No unified modeling approach
  • Missing in-depth Data Vault 2.0 knowledge
  • Insufficient expertise in the automation tool used
  • Migration of the existing system

In order to completely replace the legacy system the client needed to cope different challenges such as:

  • High complexity and diversity of the existing data landscape
  • Handling of the high number of different source systems
  • Varied granularities for identical subjects
  • Difficulties with data integration

Die Lösung

To tackle described issues and specific challenges, a workshop was conducted. It aimed to transfer Scalefree’s expert knowledge of the Data Vault 2.0 methodology, providing:

  • Unified modeling approach with Data Vault 2.0
  • Answers to specific questions regarding the implementation
  • Elaboration of a migration approach
  • Knowledge transfer on advanced topics in Data Vault 2.0
  • Assistance for the usage of the automation tool dbt
